Peirano's Market, established in 1877 by Alex Gandolfo, is a historic cornerstone of Ventura, California. Built by J.J. Mahoney, the market was Ventura’s first commercial brick building, symbolizing the town’s early development and economic growth during a transformative period in California’s history. Alex Gandolfo, an Italian immigrant, became the first tenant, opening a general merchandise and grocery store that quickly became a vital hub for the growing community.

The store offered a wide range of goods, including groceries, farm implements, wine, cigars, and black powder, meeting the diverse needs of Ventura’s residents. More than just a store, Peirano’s Market became a center of commerce and community, reflecting the entrepreneurial spirit of Alex Gandolfo and his contributions to shaping the local economy.

While the Peirano family later took over the business and continued its success, the Gandolfo name remains deeply intertwined with the legacy of this enduring landmark. Today, the building is recognized for its cultural and historical significance.
